the principal deed componants are SURVEYs NUMBER 54 and 55 of Swamp and Overflowed Land which i think were done in our around 1869. both surveys are anchored on Southwest corner of Section 32, Township 4 North Range 6 West, Mount Diablo Meridian. survey 54 is on the north and suvey 55 is just south of it and adjacent. i believe this to be around 38.142126° -122.559687° in EPSG 2872 (spcs nad83 harn zone3) i was using this as a 5969195.873;2244762.500 but these values are just to get us in the ball park SPCS83 toolkit from NOAA was used to determine the convergence and scale values for this location. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/TOOLS/spc.shtml Convergence -1 15 39.69 -> dms to dd -> 1.261025 Scale Factor 0.99995241 the surveys 54 and 55 stated that they calcluated thier declination to be 16 degress east of true north. here are the range of magentic declination values over the last 100+ years 1869,16.43333 1870,16.46667 1880,16.68333 1890,16.78333 1900,17.10000 1905,17.46667 1910,17.86667 1915,18.10000 1920,18.20000 1925,18.13333 1930,18.08333 1935,18.10000 1940,18.05000 1945,17.90000 1950,17.71667 1955,17.56667 1960,17.46667 1965,17.35000 1970,17.16667 1975,16.88333 1980,16.50000 1985,16.23333 1990,16.03333 1995,15.88333 2000,15.46667 2005,14.96667 2010,14.43333 2015,13.88333 source: http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag-web/#ushistoric upon reviewing the bearings described in the deed i determined that they must be true north. quickly plotting the lines against epsg2872 shows them close to lining up. if they were 13 to 16 degrees off of north then we would see it, instead applying the convergence values of 1.261025 made a number of lines line up exactly with existing fence lines which we can assume were placed based on prior survey work.
