Summary

This project constitutes an inventory of state parks in the San Joaquin Valley documenting the presence and distribution of rare and listed vertebrate species. These surveys were part of a large-scale project administered by California State Parks and funded by Bureau of Reclamation that included eight State Park units: - Caswell Memorial SP - Turlock Lake SRA - McConnell SRA - George J. Hatfield SRA - Great Valley Grasslands SP - San Luis Reservoir SRA (northern management units & Los Banos Reservoir unit) - Colonel Allensworth SHP - Tule Elk SR. The information was presented along with historic data from past surveys in assorted parks to help assess the role of State Parks in providing quality habitat for rare and listed vertebrate species in the San Joaquin Valley.

Description

This shapefile includes line transect plots and results for several different taxa of rare and listed animals, conducted by contracted biologists from the University of California, Davis Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology in 2006 and 2007. These taxa include burrowing owl, Swainson's hawk, special status birds, canids (including San Joaquin kit fox), western spadefoot, and western pond turtle. When applicable, standardized protocols were used in surveys. The GIS data (Teale Albers, NAD83) shows the area search survey plots at five park units including: - northern management units of San Luis Reservoir SRA (burrowing owl, special status birds) - Los Banos management unit of San Luis Reservoir SRA (burrowing owl) - Great Valley Grasslands SP (burrowing owl, Swainson's hawk, special status birds, western pond turtle) - Colonel Allensworth SHP (canids, burrowing owl) - Tule Elk SNR (burrowing owl, Swainson's hawk, special status birds, western pond turtle, western spadefoot). Attribute data includes all survey results, but does not include incidental sightings. There were other state parks surveyed by area search for which no GIS data was included. These occurrence data are not included in this shapefile, although may be included in some of the point shapefiles for that taxa if GIS coordinates were available.
