Swainson's hawk, California threatened species, California State Parks, San Joaquin Valley, California, biota, environment
This project constitutes an inventory of parks in the San Joaquin Valley documenting the presence and distribution of rare and listed vertebrate species. The information was presented along with historic data from past surveys in assorted parks to help assess the role of State Parks in providing quality habitat for rare and listed vertebrate species in the San Joaquin Valley.
This dataset includes Swainson's hawk observations in the following San Joaquin Valley State Park units: Caswell Memorial State Park, McConnell State Recreation Area, George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area, Great Valley Grassland State Park, San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area (north management units), the Los Baos Creek unit of SLRSRA, and Tule Elk State Natural Reserve. Records are from survey results and incidental observations for which geographic coordinates were available. Turlock Lake State Recreation Area and Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park were also surveyed with no confirmed breeding of Swainson's hawks. See SJV_Parks_Line.shp and SJV_Parks_Polygon.shp for survey plot locations. Surveys were conducted by contracted biologists from the University of California, Davis Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology in 2006 and 2007 and by CDPR staff. Standard methodology (SWHA TAC 2000) was used. Refer to the report for a full inventory of surveyed areas and occurrence results: Englis, Jr., Andrew, O.S.V. Alminas, A.E. Castaneda, E.
