Summary

The purpose of this project is : (1) to map density classes of upland exotic species; (2) to provide Geographic Informations Systems (GIS)-based data to assist in exotic species management at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton (Base) and (3) to provide baseline data for the Base to develop a Basewide upland weed management strategy.

Data Quality

Scope of quality information
Resource level dataset

Data quality report - Conceptual consistency
Measure description
No tests for logical consistency were conducted.

Data quality report - Completeness omission
Measure description
Surveys took place between the spring of 2004 and the fall of 2005. Each accessible training area was visited one time in 2004 and one time in 2005, when possible. Invasive species apparent at the time of the surveys were noted and classified by density class. Due to the differences in phenology of many exotic weed species, plants apparent or obvious during specific season may not have been identified in training areas when not surveyed during the peak growing season for the individual species.

Lineage

Process step
Description
Mapping began in the spring of 2004 and was completed in the summer of 2005. Mapping methods included reviewing histrorical weed information, mapping potential weed locations using aerial photographs, and conductiing field mapping to confirm aerial mapping and to map species not identifiable from aerial photographs.

Overview Description
Entity and Attribute Overview
All attributes specific to weed names are based on a 4-letter code - the first two letters of the genus followed by the first two letters of the species. In the event that only genus level detail was recorded the title is the first two letters of the genus name followed by "_SP" (ie AV_SP). The values in these attributes are one of the four density classes: T for Trace 1 2 3
