This dataset is bird species observation information collected at CDFWs Knoxville Wildlife Area from 6/10/2019 to 6/14/2019. The data collection protocol largely followed the National Protocol Framework for the Inventory and Monitoring of Landbirds Using Point Counts (Knutsen et al. 2016) and the PRBO Point Count Methodology (Ballard et al. 2003). Data was collected by Conrad Jones, Stacy Martinelli, Jennifer Meyers, Katherine Miller, Krysta Rogers and Levi Souza.
This dataset was collected to understand the diversity and abundance of terrestrial bird species following a wildfire (County Fire) comparing burned and unburned habitats over at least three years after fire. A key species of focus is the California Quail (Callipepla californica). This effort also establishes a baseline as future surveys track trends species abundance indices.
