Summary

This is a spatial database compiling many sources of golden eagle observations into a standard format for comparison and management. The observations contained in this dataset may not be represented in the California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB) but may be included in the future. For the time being, users should utilize both datasets concurrently.

Description

This is the California and Nevada Golden Eagle Working Group's (GEWG) observation dataset. This is a working dataset requiring more documentation and should not be shared outside of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife until finalized. The records generally represent observations of golden eagles (GOEA, Aquila chrysaetos) nesting, perching, flying, and foraging (excludes mortality). This is a cooperative project with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS, Service), and members of the CA/NV Golden Eagle Working Group (https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Birds/Golden-Eagles/GEWG).
