These surveys were taken to assess the type of vegetation that exists in the Carrizo Plains and its environs. They were used as the basis of a vegetation classification compliant with the National Vegetation Classification System. The combination of survey data and the classification of the local vegetation were used to produce a detailed, accurate vegetation map of the Carrizo Plains.
Carrizo Plant Species are points showing where rapid assessment or releve surveys were done in and around the Carrizo Plains area of California by staff of either the CA Dept. of Fish and Game or the California Native Plant Society. At each point, a number of environmental variables including soil texture, aspect, and slope were taken. A complete plant list was taken for each releve and a list of all the species that had more than trace coverage were taken for each rapid assessment. The classification is defined to meet the specifications of the National and State standards for vegetation classification, but is related through a cross-walking table (https://nrmsecure.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=15233) to other standard classifications in use locally or statewide.
