This dataset was developed for the SR-11 and Otay Mesa East Port of Entry environmental studies.
Sensitive plant and animals were surveyed as part of environmental studies conducted in State Route 11 and Otay Mesa East Port of Entry areas in San Diego County. The work was conducted by HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. for the California Department of Transportation. In 2006, areas that had been previously surveyed (in 2000 and 2005) were revisited and sensitive species observation data were updated as necessary. Surveys were conducted during flowering periods of the special status plants. Biologists walked transects to look for new locations and verify previously mapped locations. Plant populations were mapped with a GPS with sub-meter accuracy. In some cases parcels were not surveyed because they were already developed or permission to enter was not granted. Biological resource mapping for those areas were produced from previous surveys, viewing from a distance, and/or aerial photography. Sensitive plant polygons were created when there were too many individual locations for points to be used. This datalayer presents sensitive plant polygon locations, including federally listed species. Use of the data should limited to informational and preliminary study purposes only.
