WHAT THE DATABSE WAS DESIGNED TO DO. The database was designed to document all of the observations of this mountain beaver and its distribution. HOW THE DATABASE WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED. It was designed to be used with the recovery plan to identify conservation and protection activities to maintain mountain beavers at least in their known habitat.
This data set describes the distribution of 110 observed burrow systems in 26 different local populations. TIME PERIOD COVERED. All sites were first discovered from 1981 through 1997 except for the very first observation of a Point Arena mountain beaver which occurred in 1951. NUMBER OF RECORDS. There are 110 records of different burrow systems presented here. GEOGRAPHIC EXTENT OF THE RECORDS. The records extend from about 0.5 mi south of the town of Point Arena to about 10.5 mi north of the town. Almost all records are within 3 miles of the coast. BASE DATA STRUCTURE. The base data structure is a dBASE 5.7 .dbf file. WHAT EACH RECORD REPRESENTS. Currently each record documents the location of a burrow system and provides the date when the system was first located and when the last observation record was made. The data table has fields for characteristics of the burrow system but they are not used.
