Supplemental information
HOW DATA WERE COLLECTED IN THE FIELD AND BY WHOM. The data came from a variety of sources and a variety of methods were use to gather this historical data. WHO DID THE INITIAL DATA COMPILATION. Data were compiled by Esther Burkett (for address see Citation below) and entered by Vikki Avara and Karen Sernka. BASIS FOR GEOGRAPHIC COORDINATES. Each point representing an observation was placed using the best estimate from the observers description of the location. UTM's for these points were the derived from USGS Quad. maps using NAD27 coordinates. GENERAL ASSUMPTIONS OF THE DATA. These points do not represent all observations of fishers made in California. KNOWN CAVEATS OF THE DATA. Most of the geographic coordinates are only estimates. The UTM coordinates in the shapefile data table are given in NAD27. However, the shapefile displays the data in NAD83.
