Summary

A community science inventory of the native bumble bees of California occurring statewide, 2022-2023.

Description

California Bumble Bee Atlas (CABBA), a community science partnership with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation to inventory the bumble bees of California. CABBA field survey data are uploaded to Bumble Bee Watch (BBW), Xerces' data management platform for bumble bees. Data are managed in a database on the backend of the Bumble Bee Watch website. They are disseminated as appropriate to other locations, including the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB), and the Bumble Bees of North America Database.

Participants take macro photos of anaesthetized bees. They collect site and survey data. Photos and other data are uploaded to Bumble Bee Watch, where project leads identify bumble bees.
