Summary

This is a spatial database compiling multiple sources of bald eagle observations into a standard format for comparison and management. The observations contained in this dataset may not be represented in the California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB) but may be included in the future. For the time being, users should utilize both datasets concurrently.

Description

The Bald Eagle Observations Database is a product of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (CDFW's) Wildlife Branch and Biogeographic Data Branch. The records generally represent bald eagles (BAEA, Haliaeetus leucocephalus ) nesting, perching, and flying. Additional information about the eagle, the database, and submitting data can be found on CDFW's Bald Eagles in California Webpage: https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Birds/Bald-Eagle .

This dataset represents observed nest locations for Bald Eagles, generalized to a 2.5 mile hexagon grid. If you need more specific location information, please contact the listed point of contact in the metadata.
