cn:short-eared owl, sn: Asio flammeus, Carrizo Plain, spotlight surveys
Short-eared owl observation locations on the Carrizo Plains between 2007 and 2017. Data was largely gathered during quarterly San Joaquin kit fox spotlighting surveys but also includes a few incidental observations. Spotlight survey routes crossed approximately 80 miles of the Carrizo Plains along Soda Lake and Elkhorn Roads. Routes were run by Bob Stafford and one other observer and both sides of the road were spotlighted simultaneously. All locations were taken from a handheld GPS at road locations and owls were within 200 m of the road. All records are in decimal degrees and a NAD83 projection. Each observation on a particular date is representative of a different owl and observations were not recorded if an owl species could not be positively identified
The dataset was created to document short-eared owl observations which occurred during the kit fox spotlighting routes.
