What the database was designed to do: It was designed to locate and document cholera outbreaks in wintering waterfowl in the Sacramento - San Joaquin River Delta. How the database was designed to be used. It was designed to facilitate the removal of carcasses as a means of slowing the progression of the disease and to locate areas of dead waterfowl so that those areas could be checked again.
This is a dataset providing the location and number of sandhill cranes in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta area as a product of doing aerial, waterfowl disease surveys during the winter months. It is comprised of a shapefile and a separate data table (the extended file). The metadata for this dataset (including both the shapefile data table and the extended table) is included here. Time period covered: Surveys were made from November through March, from 1993 through 2000. Number of records: There are 815 observation records. Geographic extent of the records: The aerial surveys were made of 59 designated areas in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in Sacramento, San Joaquin, Alameda, and Yolo counties. Base data structure: The original location data were provided in an Arc 3.x shapefile. The sandhill crane population information in the extended file were provided in a .dbf. What each record represents: Each record provide the name and size of the parcel where the cranes were found, the number of cranes seen, and the observation date.
